This week…

Its an exciting week, here at Venus headquarters. So much going on: on the show, in our city and with us…

Montreal visual artist Dominique Petrin, longtime Venus friend and hero, has struck a major coup against the gentrification of St Laurent Blvd. She has wrapped the Katakombes (1635 St. Laurent Blvd, Montreal’s favorite venue for heavy music) in an installation of silkscreened paper- so contemporary, imaginative, psychedelic and also hilarious- it simply must seen to be believed!!! Join the artist tomorrow Wednesday October 3, 2012 from 17h-21h for the vernissage.

Also taking place on Venus this Thursday, at the top of the show, we are pleased to welcome Xarah Dion of Leopard et Moi (you might recognize her from past appearances on Venus Radio with her other project Momies de Palerme). We will talk with her about Leopard et Moi, about the now-legendary artistic hub she co-founded, La Brique, about Howl! Arts Collective and the intersection of art and political activism.
Howl! arts collective aims to build bridges between struggles for social justice and the arts. Howl! aims to highlight artists rooted in Montreal’s fiercely creative independent arts community via cultural events while organizing projects and creating spaces that express a culture of resistance to capitalism and injustice at home and abroad.”

AND FINALLY… For months (!) Venus Radio has been looking forward to the Montreal launch of Lies: A Journal of Materialist Feminism… and now, its finally arrived!!!

LIES is a new journal spearheaded by a feminist collective based in Oakland, Baltimore, Los Angeles and New York City.

LIES is a communist journal against communists.

LIES is a platform for certain conversations and critiques that are difficult, impossible or dangerous if cis men are in the room.

LIES attacks the legacy of racism and transphobia that has plagued feminist organizing and strives to develop new ways of making autonomous feminist practices today that take pointed and militant attacks on white supremacy and transphobia as essential parts of feminist struggle.

LIES came out of our experience within struggles. It seeks to embody and develop in print the practice of autonomy that we needed to save ourselves in the midst of movements squared on patriarchy and fueled by the subordination of everyone but white cis men.

LIES draws its purpose and support from networks and circles of feminist, queer, and trans people, our friends and comrades to whom this journal is devoted.”

LIES is launching in Montreal this Sunday October 7, 2012 at 8pm at Notre Dame des Quilles (32 Beaubien Est). There will be readings from the Journal, hanging out, copies for sale (sliding scale 5-10$) and Djs from Venus Radio Collective!!!
